History

The history of fantasy Olympics

I am a fantasy nut. I am in on every fantasy league. I'm in multiple fantasy football leagues, a few baseball leagues, basketball, hockey, NASCAR. I've been in survivor pools, Superbowl squares, and March madness.  If there is a sport on TV, I am watching it, and if I have a fantasy player involved, I'm going out of my way to catch it.
Every two years the debate comes up about Olympics. Do you like them? Are you going to watch? People always say they will watch the opening  ceremonies, maybe basketball or figure skating, but they won't watch a modern pentathlon, or Nordic combined.
Sitting there watching a match of curling I sat there rooting for a country I'm not from, but just to be rooting for someone. Then it hit me. Why not make a fantasy Olympic team, so I could have a vesting interest in another player or country.
I searched for fantasy Olympics online, and I found very little. The only thing there was was an article from ESPN.com on how to play. It was confusing, and in my opinion, a boring setup. I decided to make my own. In January 2010 I wrote up THE RULES called some friends and made my own fantasy Olympics.
It was a hit. We decided from here on out we will have a summer and winter fantasy Olympics.

Another update

I have been working on simplifying the blog for easier access.  Look for the tabs "rules"  and "events" and many others.  The home page of the blog will be used for updates, while you can go to the tabs for all the information to get you started.  We are about 3 months away, so keep checking in for updates, PDF's of competitors, and Google doc's of information as well

spreadsheet explanation

This is a spreadsheet from the 2012 summer olympics.  It was not completed, but it shows you how the draft worked.  A snake draft, starting with Jason went up and down.  Participants are allowed to pick any atlhete/team at any point in the draft.  Particpants are allowed to pick as many or as few athletes/teams in any event.  This is the strategy.  Once someone picks USA hoops, there is no reason to take another basketball team.  This is again, background knowledge, and will help when the 2014 winter olympics emerge

Welcome back fantasy olympians!!!

I am gearing up for another run at a season of fantasy olympics: Sochi 2014

I will be linking to my twitter account @fantasyolympic

In the summer of 2012 we expanded from 10 to 15 events.  We will be keeping it at 15 events for winter 2014.  I know many won't be checking this July 2013, but I wanted to get it down for when you do check in December, January.
