The history of fantasy Olympics
I am a fantasy nut. I am in on every fantasy league. I'm in multiple fantasy football leagues, a few baseball leagues, basketball, hockey, NASCAR. I've been in survivor pools, Superbowl squares, and March madness. If there is a sport on TV, I am watching it, and if I have a fantasy player involved, I'm going out of my way to catch it.
Every two years the debate comes up about Olympics. Do you like them? Are you going to watch? People always say they will watch the opening ceremonies, maybe basketball or figure skating, but they won't watch a modern pentathlon, or Nordic combined.
Sitting there watching a match of curling I sat there rooting for a country I'm not from, but just to be rooting for someone. Then it hit me. Why not make a fantasy Olympic team, so I could have a vesting interest in another player or country.
I searched for fantasy Olympics online, and I found very little. The only thing there was was an article from ESPN.com on how to play. It was confusing, and in my opinion, a boring setup. I decided to make my own. In January 2010 I wrote up THE RULES called some friends and made my own fantasy Olympics.
It was a hit. We decided from here on out we will have a summer and winter fantasy Olympics.
